You don’t have to be a poet junkie to have heard of Robert Burns. Born in Scotland on the 25th January 1759 and dying on the 21st July 1796, he has been dubbed Scotland’s favourite son. Each year the Scottish, along with other nationalities worldwide, spend the evening of the 25th January to celebrate his works.
Throughout the evening’s festivities, you can expect to see lots of men in kilts, listen to various Robert Burn’s poems and taste the famous haggis dish. And let’s not forget the whiskey; it wouldn’t be a Scottish celebration without it!
Interesting fact: did you know that Robert Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne?
If you wish to join in with the celebrations in Scotland, you can arrange an Edinburgh car hire online, or perhaps you want to celebrate in another city? Check out our great UK car hire rates and list of car hire destinations.
