The Complete Guide to Car Hire, Part One: Choosing The Best Hire Car For You

Back in June 2009 we ran a post announcing the launch of the all new ‘Auto Europe Car Rental Roadmap’ – the ultimate car hire guide presented in pdf format for easy reading and/or printing. Now, as a reminder to those of you who have read this informative car hire guide and as an intro to anyone who hasn’t yet, we’ve decided to serialise it right here on our blog!
OK so it’s not a sizzling summer blockbuster, but reading these six short weekly articles should stand you in good stead to enjoy trouble-free car hire wherever you may be! This week’s scintillating section simply suggests the questions you should ask yourself to ensure you choose the best car hire for your trip:
- How many passengers will be travelling with you? Please note that 7-seater vehicles rarely have any room for luggage once 7 people are aboard (2 of the seats are usually in the boot space of the vehicle where they can be folded down if not required)
- How far do you need to drive? Remember, whilst a small car may have 5 seats it could be quite uncomfortable for 5 adults on a long journey.
- Will a 2-door vehicle be sufficient or would 4-doors be better?
- How much luggage will you have? Click on the ‘i’ on the Auto Europe car listings to see what the boot capacity is.
- Would you prefer a manual or automatic vehicle?
- Are you travelling somewhere hot? If so, do you need air conditioning?
- Do you need ski racks, snow chains or winter tyres? If so, then please ensure you reserve these in advance as they may not be available on arrival without reservation
- Do you need child seats? If so, then please be sure to make a request prior to travel and do ask for a quote as you will be charged for the hire of the seats on arrival. Please note: equipment may not be available at all locations and is on request only.
